"Just Keep Swimming...Just Keep Swimming....
What do we do? We swim, swim...." as Dory would sing. Well...my mantra for today...and every other day...Just keep running. Why??? Well, even if you almost get hit by a crazy lady in a black mustang who gets confused between her clutch and her gas (thanks lady...you are really setting us girls back in the driving department), even if the big hill gets harder every lap, even if some 12 year old kid drives wobbly up the sidewalk (aparently his parents didn't teach him that it is actually ILLEGAL to drive your bike in a sidewalk), and even if you shin splints are more like shin nails....you just have to keep doing it so in October, when you are all nervous and sick to your stomach at the starting line of your very first marathon ever, you will feel like at least you trained the hardest and best you could. Some days your times might not have been ideal...your stride might not have been perfect...your breathing was too hard, your shoulders too tense, you looked like a psychotic person from the 1980's because you were wearing your hot pink tank top with your bright green shorts and sweating all over the sidewalk; perhaps your hair was even in that so attractive high side pony tail too (not because you meant it to be like that but because somewhere on the 4th mile your hair started slipping out and your arms were too tired to get them way on the very top of your head), or maybe your Nike Ipod thingy wasn't working that way it is supposed to do (Heather...girl....throw that damn thing away...wink). For every day that sucks, there is still a sense of success that you did it. It wasn't pretty, but you did it.
This is a pep talk to Heather...as her adventures running in the great city of Bangor seem to be getting her down. Heather...just remember when this is all over, and we actually do run a marathon we can get one of those rockin' tee shirts that say we did it, and we can say that we have gone through get another crazy endeavor together. (Oh...and I totally think after this marathon we will so deserve a trip to the Spa....so lets book it now)
